It took nine long years since the death of Plastic’s sole composer, Mejla Hlavsa, for the band to gather enough new songs to release another record. It has to be said that “Maska na maskou” (The Mask behind the Mask) (2010) exceeded skeptical expectations and presented The Plastic People of the Universe as a self-contained and confident band that built on its legendary legacy with dignity and offered a record that was a little different after all.

Yet, the band retained their typical sound and raised the bar high again. At the same time, however, it was a swan song, because due to personal disagreements the band split into two soon after the release and each went its own way. Nevertheless, the quality of “Maska na maskou” is indisputable so that we offer it on LP, too. The bonus is an inserted poster and a number of photos, either from the studio or from concerts. There is also a photo documentation of the CD launch, which was attended by Václav Havel.

“The Plastic People of the Universe sound like a band that knows what it wants, is anchored in the past to the necessary extent, and has enough creative potential to be a pleasant surprise. They don’t have to measure themselves against anything around them: just their great past. And they have certainly lived up to it with remarkable vitality and dignity.” wrote critic Jaroslav Riedel in February 2010.
