As one of the most sought-after Croatian guitarists, Ante Gelo achieved numerous musical collaborations, which helped him developing into a respectable instrumentalist and author, but with the music on the album “Mara” he also confirmed himself as a leader, a musician who has a vision and knows how to realize it.

This album contains nine compositions, six originals and three arrangements. The latter are Gelo’s vision of well-known songs – from Oliver Dragojević’s “Molitva za Magdalenu” ( A Prayer for Magdalena), through the opening theme of “Profesor Baltazar” (a Yugoslavian animated series by Zlatko Grgić that was aired from 1967 to 1977) to the jazz standard “Lament” by trombonist J.J. Johnson.

The Ante Gelo Sextet consists of Ante Gelo on guitar, Lee Harper on trumpet, Ales Suša on saxophone, Alberto Marsico on Hammond, Maciej Domaradzaki on double bass and Krunoslav Levačić on drums. The instrumental compositions on this release are side by side with world jazz performers, and considering the great reputation of the accompanying musicians, as well as the popularity of Ante Gelo himself, there is no doubt that this release will reach a large audience.

The musician, guitarist, arranger and producer Ante Gelo graduated in jazz guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz in 2001. After his return from Graz, he performed at numerous concerts and jazz festivals throughout Europe and abroad. Over the years, he has also performed on famous world concert stages in collaboration with renowned Yugoslavian and international musicians, Oliver Dragojević, Arsen Dedić, Gabi Novak, Boško Petrović and Amira Medunjanin being just a few of them.

He writes for numerous orchestras, works as a jazz educator at various workshops and seminars, performs with his Ante Gelo band as a house band in various TV shows of HRT, and is also an arranger, instrumentalist and part of the production team of the show “A strana” (A Side). He is the winner of several awards and recognitions, and he is also the owner of more than twenty Porin awards.

After twenty long years of working with other performers and on their material, Ante has returned to jazz and has released his debut album.
