Rock revival from the mid-80s available again

After the repression at the beginning of the decade, the situation around non-mainstream modern music was easing somewhat. Perestroika had unsettled the comrades, and it was necessary to try to win the youth over to the side of moderate progress within the confines of the law. Suddenly, even (only in our country) less traditional music genres could get a chance in clubs and festivals. Panton was open to new names, which, with a few exceptions, were presented on record labels for the first time. In 1985 and 1986, in the studio of the Smetana Theatre, it was possible to make recordings that, although sometimes limited in sound by technological possibilities and the tolerance of the approvers, were much bolder than they might have seemed a few years ago.

This compilation – with 16 tracks on CD – is stylistically varied indeed. Alongside deserving guitar tracks like Odyssea, the already popular Combo FH, Brno’s Futurum, the southern Pumpa, the Hanseatic greats Yo Yo Band or Nahlas, there are also newcomers. Domestic reggae of Babalet with Aleš Drvota, started Moped with Vilda Čok, Dr. Max or Natural, who are not afraid of computers, or surprisingly, Slovakian Tublatanka, who started in Prague.

Listening is fun and not only memorably valuable: the various rock samples are a contemporary source of pleasure and knowledge. A selection of many interesting things from the two original vinyls is published for the first time.
