This March’s octogenarian and his ageless songs

Jubilarian Petr Spálený (born at 22 March 1944) presents a newly compiled collection of 23 songs charting his career from 1967 to the second decade of the third millennium. Choosing greatest hits from hundreds of options is not exactly easy, but compiler Miloš Skalka is a man truly in his place. He has filled in the songs absolutely first rate with those perhaps lesser known but equally important to Spaleny. You will also find duets with his wife Miluška Voborníková (next December’s, and quite incredible, seventy-fiveth birthday), but also with Dan Bárta or Zdeněk Rytíř. The latter would also have celebrated his eightieth birthday this year, but he has not been with us for more than ten years.

However, this does not mean at all that his lyrics, which adorn the songs of many of our top performers, have, in the case of Petr Spálený, perhaps aged in a fundamental way. It is not necessary to define the singer’s genre or style, it is simply unique: songs covered, but above all original, a bit of reminiscent big beat, a lot of quality melodic pop or a pinch of country inspirations. All of this united by the credible bass-baritone of a nice guy with an irresistible moustache as a trademark. The booklet features period photographs and an insider biography, complementing the singer’s profile with endearing insight and rare self-irony.
