Croatia Records Release Information

Croatia Records presents one of the most anticipated reissues from the Jugoton catalogue – the legendary debut album by the Rijeka-based synth-pop duo Denis & Denis, “Čuvaj se!” (Beware!). More than four decades after its original release, the album returns in its original vinyl format, in deluxe packaging and with a remastered sound.

Marina Perazić and Davor Tolja, united as the duo Denis & Denis, were among the leading pop acts on the Yugoslavian music scene in the eighties and pioneers of the local synth-pop scene. When the album “Čuvaj se!” (Beware!) was released in 1984, nothing on the scene at the time sounded so fresh, bold and futuristic. The combination of Tolja’s synthesiser arrangements and Marina’s sensual, hypnotic vocals took over the airwaves and clubs across the former Yugoslavia overnight.

With the producer Andrej Baš, Denis & Denis set new standards in production, and hits such as “Program tvog kompjutera” (Your Computer’s Programme), “Tek je sedam sati” (It’s only Seven O’Clock) and the title track “Čuvaj se!” (Beware!) became instant classics that still fill dance floors today, four decades later.

In early 1985, “Čuvaj se!” was named “Best Domestic Pop Album of the Year” by Yugoslavia’s leading pop music magazine, “Rock” in its January issue.

The reissue of the album “Čuvaj se!” comes at a time when the band Denis & Denis are bidding farewell to active music-making. Following recent concerts in Ljubljana, Belgrade, Novi Sad and Rijeka, Marina and Davor will play their final concerts on 3 April in Osijek and 10 April at Lauba in Zagreb.

The album has been remastered by Mauro Širol at the Croatia Records Studio, while the lacquer cut of the album was done by Sean Magee at London’s Abbey Road Studio. The release also includes a download card with a code to download the mp3 version of the album.

The album also comes with an exclusive booklet containing numerous archival materials and previously unpublished photographs taken by Mario Krištofić at the time the album was made. Alongside texts by Siniša Škarica and Željko Luketić, the booklet also features a review of the release by Sanja Bachrach Krištofić and Mario Krištofić, who were responsible for the artwork of the original release as well as this lavishly presented vinyl reissue.
