GrundRecords Release Information

“Az arc” (The Face) has been Omega’s tenth studio album in Hungarian, created as part of another stylistic shift following their space rock era.

The band was influenced by new wave, yet their music remained strongly guitar-oriented rock. The ballad “Tizenhat évesen” (At the Age of Sixteen) has an almost dreamlike quality and is undoubtedly the musical highlight of the album. The album’s songs were recorded between 10 and 30 September 1981 at the newly built Omega Studio, and the record hit stores in time for the Christmas season.

Péter Sülyi, the lyricist who defined Omega in the 1970s, returned for this album. “Az arc” has been the most thought-provoking album Sülyi has written for Omega; his lyrics are possessing a sobering power.

As a bonus, the CD includes the officially preserved Omega songs from the concert held on 5 September 1980 at the Kisstadion Budapest, the final stop of the joint tour by Omega, Locomotiv GT and Beatrice in 1980. The rerelease has been complemented by a 24-page booklet containing liner notes, photos and lyrics.
