GrundRecords Release Information
“Gammapolis” (Gammapolis) has been Omega’s ninth Hungarian studio album and the third release of the band’s space rock era. By this point, there was no doubt that Omega was and has been Hungary’s most beloved rock band. The new album was released in 1979 and quickly became the best-selling record in the country.
All the lyrics on this album were written by János Bródy under the pseudonym Gábor Várszegi. The otherworldly music showcased Omega in perfect harmony. The dominant combination of metallic guitar and synthesizer keeps the listener floating throughout the album.
The song “Arcnélküli ember” (The Faceless Man) is the sole focal point. Omega plays second fiddle here; actor Péter Haumann takes the lead role and excels in it: he delivers the poem about human characterlessness with frenetic intensity. The album’s two major hits are the airy, truly aristocratic-sounding “Nyári éjek asszonya” (Lady of Summer Nights) and “Ezüst eső” (Silver Rain).
This rerelease has been complemented by a 24-page booklet featuring liner notes, photos and lyrics.
