The 30th anniversary of the “Velvet Revolution” is a compelling reason to release an album of collected recordings by the inimitable Marta Kubišová. The communist regime banned her artistic activity in the early 1970s and thanks to the events of November 1989 she was able to return to the stages and recording studios...

Songs from 1966-2017 depict the singer in different positions. It is her imaginary journey through life and musical genres. At the same time in several languages. Besides Czech, she sings in English, French, Hebrew and German. Most of the recordings on the CD selection are being released for the very first time.

The album is definitely not a selection of hits. Many of those have already been released. It presents the unique singer in a somewhat darker position, especially thanks to the lyrics of Jan Schneider, Pavel Vrba, Petr Rada, Xavier Baumax, Zdeněk Svěrák, Jan Burian and, surprisingly, Václav Havel and others. Martha Kubišová’s songs of this type suit her best. The power of her speech suggestively draws the listener into the stories she tells...
