Guerilla Records Release Information

There is perhaps nothing more to add to the legend of Psí Vojáci (Dog Soldiers), yet it is as if this legend has been partially forgotten with the passing of Filip. That’s why we decided to remind this one of the most original Czechoslovakian bands again. We have used a recording from Prague’s Chmelnice in January 1987 and added a few songs from the Brno concerts. The material was supplied directly by the band’s descendants, who said that they would like to hear this again.

So we can listen to the raw and stubborn Psí Vojáci back when they weren’t selling out Lucerna, the girls weren’t squealing and “Žiletky” (Razor Blades) was far from being a hit. But the uniqueness, the uniqueness and the will to go their own way was already there. Vojtěch Lindaur wrote of Topol’s work in those years (MS, 1988). Even though Topol’s classical piano training manifests itself in his playing in a completely spontaneous way and his compositions are structured in a very unusual and structured way, he managed to build up a repertoire of hits in the best sense of the word during the past year. He has a strength, a predatory and aggressive quality that at first sight is hysterical; but attentive listeners will sense an inner discipline, shyness and humility. And you will find all this on “our” disc.
