Reissue of two excellent albums!

Singer and composer Jirí Schelinger and musician and lyricist František Ringo Cech created a number of hits in the seventies, but these albums became their joint artistic highlight. Here they went from bubblegum cover versions – in conjunction with a great band – to an exclusively hard-rock repertoire of their own, partly, surprisingly, linked to our folk-rock cutting edge.

“Hrrr na ne…” (Hrrr at Them...) (1977) is ten at times boldly raucous numbers for the socialism of the time, interspersed with quirky nonsense passages. The band, driven by the rhythm section of Jirí Stárek (drums) and Jan Kavale (bass) and embellished by the excellent guitar of Stanislav “Klásek” Kubeš and the percussion of bandleader Cech, is here ideally supported by Schelinger’s uniquely raspy and uncurling voice. Alongside essential songs such as “Kartágo” (Carthage) or “Lucrezia Borgia”, there is also further evidence of the fact that even seemingly simple lyrics can be given the necessary electrifying mood.

...nám se líbí... (...We Like...) (1979) was a pleasant shock at the time of its release. Apart from the expected bullish rock tunes, there are also semi-acoustic songs with the guests of interest Peter Kalandra, Oskar Peter and Jan Hrubý. One of the whispers says that it was a kind of repertoire out of necessity, but the result is quite extraordinary. Historically, this is probably Schellinger’s best-ever singing, the undoubted power of the often unsophisticated melodies, a great promise for a tragically unfulfilled future.

The albums remastered from the original tapes are supplemented by personnel and time-related bonuses, numbering six on each CD. The booklet contains interesting period reviews, recollections and photographs.
